چکیده
Electronics and soft robotics demand the development of a new generation hybrid materials featuring novel properties. Among these, remarkable mechanical properties are required to sustain stresses, electrical magnetic essential design devices’ interface. In this study, material is presented, consisting spider silk thread, providing robustness, coated with layer magnetostrictive FeCo alloy, which ensures both conductivity stress-sensitive The durability homogeneity composite validated, as well its ability respond stimuli. Despite coating, nature performances preserved. study reveals that behavior film strongly affected by thread–FeCo interaction, especially under stresses. Indeed, when subjected tensile strain, signal changes accordingly, indicating layer–silk interaction maintained can be exploited reveal tensional state sample even severe cycles. Therefore, presented flexible fiber suitable for magneto-electronics applications, e.g., actuators strain/stress sensors.

Some things about spider silk are difficult to understand. The genetic code for one of the more perplexing types of silk—the strands spiders use to weave their egg cases. Each case must be tough enough to keep out parasites, impermeable to rain and fungus, and breathable while insulating eggs from temperature extremes. These qualities alone would make an impressive fabric. The egg cases may even ...
متن کاملSpider Silk Composites and Applications
In the past few years a number of reviews, books and journal articles featuring silks have been published. Silks are produced by over 41,000 species of spiders (class Arachnida) and by many insects (terrestrial and aquatic), particularly in the order Lepidoptera (Foelix, 1996); they are defined as externally spun fibrous material generated from protein secretions. The cocoon silk from the domes...
متن کاملSpider silk gut: Development and characterization of a novel strong spider silk fiber
Spider silk fibers were produced through an alternative processing route that differs widely from natural spinning. The process follows a procedure traditionally used to obtain fibers directly from the glands of silkworms and requires exposure to an acid environment and subsequent stretching. The microstructure and mechanical behavior of the so-called spider silk gut fibers can be tailored to c...
متن کاملPolarized light microscopy, variability in spider silk diameters, and the mechanical characterization of spider silk
Spider silks possess a remarkable combination of high tensile strength and extensibility that makes them among the toughest materials known. Despite the potential exploitation of these properties in biotechnology, very few silks have ever been characterized mechanically. This is due in part to the difficulty of measuring the thin diameters of silk fibers. The largest silk fibers are only 5–10 m...
متن کاملSpider silk reduces insect herbivory.
The role of predators in food webs extends beyond their ability to kill and consume prey. Such trait-mediated effects occur when signals of the predator influence the behaviour of other animals. Because all spiders are silk-producing carnivores, we hypothesized that silk alone would signal other arthropods and enhance non-lethal effects of spiders. We quantified the herbivory inflicted by two b...
